Crayon Data needed a brand identity representing its expertise in solving complex data problems in a minimalist and visually appealing way. They wanted their brand to convey the flexibility and simplicity of presenting data through a unique and recognizable logo.
We developed a brand identity based on the seven tangram shapes, symbolic of an elegant answer to perplexing data problems or puzzles. The seven tangram shapes and colours were morphed, changed, and reordered to create thousands of different figures, representing the flexibility and simplicity of presenting data.
The monogram for Crayon was designed using the seven tangram shapes in vibrant primary colours, forming a stylized Roman capital letter 'C.'
Using tangrams, symbolic of the far-eastern culture, in the Crayon Data brand identity is a clever nod to the company's focus on data analysis, problem-solving, and its roots in Singapore.
The tangram shapes also communicate that data can be interpreted in many different ways, depending on how it is viewed and analyzed. Just as tangrams require creative thinking to form different shapes and patterns, Crayon Data approaches data with an innovative and flexible mindset, allowing them to derive valuable insights and solutions for its clients.
The colours were then assigned different meanings through colour-coded design considerations, making the logo flexible and adaptable to various applications.
